Cahors<\/span><\/h2>\n

The capital of the Lot department<\/strong>, Cahors<\/strong> combines a southern ambience with a wealth of heritage and culture, much to the delight of art and history enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

The town has seen several periods of fighting and devastation, but also of splendour, giving it an architecture that is completely atypical today, with ancient, medieval, renaissance and contemporary styles. Religion has always had a strong presence here, and its finest representation is to be found in Saint Stephen’s Cathedral. If the entrance porch doesn’t make you want to go in straight away, go in anyway; you’ll be surprised by its interior architecture and its magnificent Gothic-style cloister.<\/p>\n

Cahors is also home to the Pont Valentr\u00e9<\/strong>. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage<\/strong> Site in 1998, it is a fabulous testimony to medieval times. At 172 metres long, it has 8 arches and 3 towers.<\/p>\n

Finally, Cahors is also about wine, and very good wine such as Malbec<\/strong>, the region’s outstanding wine. If you’d like to discover its thousand-year-old vineyards, don’t hesitate to contact one of its winegrowers to visit his estate.<\/p>\n
