This magnificent medieval bastide in the <strong>P\u00e9rigord Noir<\/strong>, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, overlooks the Dordogne valley from its impressive cliff, some 150 metres high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">From the ramparts and the famous viewpoint, the panorama is exceptional. You can admire the River Dordogne as it winds its way between the villages of <strong>La Roque-Gageac<\/strong> and <strong>Beynac-et-Cazenac<\/strong>, and catch a glimpse, in the distance, of <strong>Montfort Castle<\/strong>, situated very close to our guesthouse, <strong>La Barde Montfort<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bba253;\">What to see in Domme?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">Strolling through Domme is a real pleasure. Its main street, lined with craft shops, local producers, restaurants and caf\u00e9s, leads naturally to the viewpoint. But the village\u2019s charm is best discovered by venturing into the narrow cobbled streets, the flower-filled passageways and the gardens, which offer magnificent views of the valley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">Among the must-sees:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the spectacular panorama over the Dordogne valley;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l\u2019Assomption;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the Porte des Tours and its fascinating history;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the Domme Cave, situated beneath the bastide;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the many craft shops and those specialising in P\u00e9rigord specialities;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the bookshop and its incredible selection;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #566276;\">the ice cream parlours and terraces for a tasty break.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bba253;\">The Domme Cave<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">Hidden beneath the narrow streets of the bastide lies a real treasure: the Domme Cave. Discovered in the early 20th century, it reveals an impressive world of stalactites, stalagmites and concretions shaped by nature over thousands of years. The guided tour allows you to explore these spectacular chambers before returning to the heart of the village. A unique experience that appeals to adults and children alike, particularly on the hottest days of summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bba253;\">The Knights Templar of Domme<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">Domme is also famous for its history linked to the Knights Templar. In 1307, several knights of the Order of the Temple were imprisoned in the Porte des Tours on the orders of King Philip the Fair. During their captivity, they carved numerous religious and mysterious symbols into the stone. These carvings, which can still be seen today during the tour, continue to intrigue historians. Some theories even suggest a coded message or a mysterious spiritual treasure left behind by the Knights Templar.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bba253;\">The Domme Market<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">If you\u2019re staying with us on a Thursday morning, don\u2019t miss the Domme market. Held in the Place de la Halle and throughout the village streets, it brings together many local producers and craftspeople. Foie gras, walnuts, strawberries, cheeses, charcuterie, honey, P\u00e9rigord wines and handcrafted goods\u2026 it\u2019s the perfect opportunity to discover the flavours and craftsmanship of our region whilst enjoying the friendly atmosphere of this magnificent bastide.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bba253;\">Our tips for visiting Domme<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">Outside the peak season, it\u2019s very easy to park in the car parks at the top of the bastide. In summer, the village gets very busy. We therefore recommend parking in the large car park at the foot of the cliff and taking the little tourist train, which will take you up to the historic centre. Allow at least two to three hours to fully enjoy the village, its narrow streets, its panoramic views and its various attractions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bba253;\">From our guesthouse<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">Domme is just 10 minutes from La Barde Montfort, making it an ideal day trip during your stay. Some of our guests even choose to cycle there along the small country roads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #566276;\">We return there regularly, whatever the season.
